Portuguese and U.S. Collaborations in Ocean Policy
The
United States and Portugal have both recently completed new
Ocean Strategy Reports which are now in the process of review
and implementation. The Luso-American Foundation and the U.S.
Embassy in Lisbon, working with leading Portuguese experts,
convened a meeting in April 2005 to begin talks to identify
common interests and shared priorities, and plan for follow up
exchanges to strengthen working ties among institutions in both
countries. The Ocean Technology Foundation, because of its work
in Portugal, was asked to participate in this meeting to serve
as liaison between Portuguese and U.S. maritime interests. Over
the next few years, OTF will play a role in helping Portugal
move its Ocean Strategy recommendations forward, and finding
commonalities in each country's strategy.
